Introduction
You’re walking down the 18th hole, a par away from your beating your best ever score. 140 yards out… well at least you think you are, you’re stuck deciding between a big 9 iron or a soft 8? You go for the big 9, aggression is key right?
You take one last look at the target, your heart is in your mouth, give the club a waggle and let it rip. You’ve flushed it, it’s all over the flag, you club twirl, walk after your shot… only to see you’ve aired the green by a good 10 yards and it kicks down the bank into a dead position… you make double.
All your hard work is thrown away because you didn’t know exactly how far away you were. The difference between shooting your personal best or not was because you flew the green by a few yards. That one misjudged club selection was the reason you lost your match by a stroke.
Now picture what would have happened if you had a Garmin watch on your wrist, telling you exactly how far away from the flag you really were…
Pros
- Compatible with Garmin Express
- Exceptional price
- 12-hour battery life
Cons

Garmin Approach S10 Product Review
Garmin is rapidly becoming a market leader in the golf GPS scene. Over the past few years, I’ve seen more and more players rock up to their tee times all kitted out in a GPS golf watch than I have ever before.
The reason for it? Well the advancements companies like Garmin have made over the past 5 years are astounding, even tour pros are getting in on them.
In previous years, Bushnell range finders have been the monopoly of golf GPS devices, however with the trendiness, simplicity, and improvement of technology in GPS watches like Garmin’s approach S10, it’s safe to say the market has become a lot more competitive.
Lo and behold, here’s a breakdown of the Garmin approach s10 GPS watch:
Features:
The Garmin Approach S10 watch is both modern in design and integrated technology. Above the surface, it may seem rather minimalist with four buttons to press on the exterior but the technology built into the watch is far from minimal.
The four buttons on the exterior case of the watch all help with on-screen navigation. With the strap fastening like that of a normal watch, a buckle with a silicone strap.
The screen is a low-res MIP monochrome 128×128 screen, so don’t expect this watch to perform anything like a touch screen Apple Watch.
Despite the screen being low-res and nothing too fancy, it’s ideal for use on golf courses as it’s a sunlight-readable screen. The Garmin Approach S10 is not a watch you’d wear to work but it’s hard to argue it wouldn’t look out of place.
The watch is waterproof, ideal for golfers who might fall into a lake while fishing for their balls. It’s important to note that the watch is only 5atm water-resistant so we wouldn’t recommend taking it scuba diving anytime soon. One thing we do recommend, however, is it being used for golf… let’s take a look at its features:
GPS Golf Mode:
The most important feature, and arguably the least you’d expect from a Garmin watch is its ability to locate how far your miss-hit tee shot is from the green.
The beauty of a GPS watch is even if you’re not on the right fairway and can’t see the hole, the watch will still know exactly how far away you are. Ideal if you’ve over-sliced your tee shot on sharp doglegs.
The Garmin Approach S10 watch has over 41,000 built-in golf courses from all across the globe. All of which are filled with key data on all bunkers, water features, approach distances, and much more.
Scorecard:
The next key feature of the Garmin Approach S10, is its ability to keep track of your score during your round. After each hole, the watch gives the golfer the option of filling in their score on the previous hole. Golf watches have come a long way since their introduction and this feature is definitely one of value.
After your game, you simply log onto the Garmin app on your smartphone, and before your very eyes will be your golf round data. Ideal.
USB Friendly:
The Garmin S10 comes with a USB cable and is also fully compatible with PCs and Mac computers. This is for monitoring your on-course performances.
Admittedly, an improvement Garmin could make would be to integrate Bluetooth but for the value for money, it’s difficult to complain.
Performance:
In terms of performance, the Garmin Approach S10 has excellent reviews. The main feedback being the simplicity of the layout. The watch face is well labeled and easy to navigate. Choosing the course and starting your round is easy to do, even for those technologically inept…
Distances are large and clear while also being very accurate compared to other GPS golf products. The Garmin Approach S10 is simple. It doesn’t have all the fancy features you find on other expensive golf watches but for the price, it’s hard to issue any concerns.
Analytics:
The USB feature included with the Garmin Approach S10 allows golfers to review their golf game and analyze their post-round data. All that’s required is the Garmin Golf App and the USB lead which comes standard with the golf watch.
Battery:
The Garmin Approach S10, according to reviews, has the best battery among all other golf watches. You can expect to get at least three full rounds of golf from the watch before running into any battery concerns. Between rounds, the golf watch uses little to no battery so should be ready to go.
Benefits of a Garmin Approach S10:
The Garmin Approach s10 has three major benefits:
The first being that it’s accurate.
This may sound ridiculous and a basic requirement when buying a watch, especially when reading about the benefits of the Garmin Approach S10, but it’s reassuring to know that the Garmin Approach is going to give you an accurate reading on the course.
The second benefit of the Garmin Approach S10 is the long battery life.
As mentioned before, the battery is undefeated amongst other GPS golf watches- the S10 has a long-life battery and can be used three times before any concerns arise overcharging.
The third and final key benefit of the Garmin Approach S10 golf watch is the price.
The cost of the Garmin Approach S10 golf GPS watch when compared to the competition is unbeatable. The value for money is ridiculous and ideal for any golfer looking at investing in a golf watch.
Which is Better out of the Garmin Approach S10 or S20?
If you look at any Garmin Approach S10 review it will tell you it’s great value for money. Both the S10 and S20 are good golf watches in their own right but despite being slightly more basic, the S10 gets the nod from us.
Is Garmin Approach S10 waterproof?
Yes, all Garmin golf watches are waterproof, however, we wouldn’t recommend going swimming wearing one.
